A little reward for our recent success; climbing the rankings a game at a time

June 3rd, 2009 | By: Mike | 2 Comments »

The FIFA World Rankings for June were announced today, with Canada moving up 6 spots with an increase of 36 points mostly in part to our 1-0 victory in Cyprus. (Also, knocking down Cyprus by 4 spots)

Canada now sits at 83rd, just behind 82nd New Zealand and ahead of 84th Congo.

In CONCACAF Rankings, we are ranked 8th out of 35, with the games coming up in the Gold Cup will defenitly alter our position (and shoot up the table I hope!).

This isn’t breaking news of any sort, but we have to start somewhere I guess, hopefully we can reach a position of 55th like we did in 2007. Our highest ranking came in 1996 when we were ranked 40th.

June 2009 FIFA World Rankings
1. Spain (-)
2. Netherlands (+1)
3. Germany (-1)
4. Italy (+1)
5. Brazil (-1)
6. England (+1)
7. Argentina (-1)
8. Croatia (-)
9. Russia (-)
10. France (-)

79. Cyprus (-4)
80. Oman (+1)
81. Belarus (+1)
82. New Zealand (-4)

83. CANADA (+6)

hey just showing support for canada i live in detroit so i am near to the border of canada usa and i have visited canada it is beautiful. also i play hockey so i like canada by default i guess but as far as football goes i think u have loads of talent but the football talent is wasted by the bad organization. i mean u should be a top 50 team u have the skill- rob friend in germany should be on the squad, de guzman is good of course, de rosario is also a gifted player and oen of the best in mls. but u have let good players like hargreaves and de guzman jr go, if u had them your midfield wouldve been better than most in the world, definitely better than any other countries in concacaf. so just put more effert soccer canada in retaining best players! and paul stalteri, canadian captain played for m favourite club tottenham so i am a fan
