Canada gets ported in Durban
Ah yes, Canadian soccer does live on… in all it’s glory. Well maybe not, with the CSA still in a ton of disorientation, with a coach who couldn’t win a game with the U20’s in Canada, well I guess you could have expected the 2-0 loss to South Africa. It’s almost at that point where I might have to say this is the closest we are going to get to world cup soil over the next 3 years if this team and soccer organization does not fix itself. Anyways that’s for a later report.
Moving on to the actual 2-0 loss against a 2nd rate South African team that the Americans beat 1-0 4 days ago when playing the 1st squad.
Paul Stalteri wins the award for best performance of the day for Canada by getting himself in the refs bad book with two yellow cards and a quick shower. Thinking for a moment of an Alan Partridge moment I just thought of the following questions that should have been asked to him, “you got two yellow cards why?”
Anyways suffice to say the damage was done before Stalteri was kicked out in 79th minute, as 2 first half goals scored by Teko Modise, one coming on a penalty in the 45th minute (courtesy of a Stalteri take down in the 18-yard box) was enough to finish the Canadians day. The other one in the 39th minute when he undressed Kevin McCanna leaving him to figure out where his jock strap was left on the field and Teko put a shot underneath the right corner cross bar and underneath Lars Hirschfeld.
I did not get to watch the game, it didn’t show on any media platform here in Canada so I’m only going by reports which have reported a poor effort by the Canadians who weren’t in synch all game and didn’t really look like they wanted to play, unlike their South African counterparts.
Larry Millson of the globe and mail reports “Some of the names in South Africa were the same as the ones that played at BMO (against Costa Rica). But Tuesday against South Africa it was as if impostors wore Canada’s red. It was as if they had just met at game time, shook hands, exchanged names and decided to play a little football.”
Anyways I’m sort of glad I didn’t watch the game, I would have only been frustrated with what was apparently displayed today.
Oh well, atleast it wasn’t a qualification game yet, there is still time in the end.
More on the game hopefully in a couple of days.

Fucking dive on that penalty. Still, bad match by any stretch of imagination by Canada. Frustrating. I skipped school for this!
