Get your cowboy hat on and cheer for Canada
That’s right, lace up those cowboy boots, get the belt buckle on and say giddy up as Canada heads into the hostile territory known as Nashville to play the United States on Thursday at the Home Depot Center.
So what’s at stake here, well it’s basically a winner take all to go breath the freshest air in the world at the Olympics in China. Canada hasn’t qualified for the Olympics since 1984, while the US and Mexico are the usual suspects to qualify. This year Mexico stumbled twice to allow Guatemela and Canada into the next round, Guatemala won their game against Mexico, while Canada tied but Canada made it by having an extra goal differential ahead of Mexico. Thank you Guatemala for that 5-0 victory to secure 2nd place over Mexico.
Well this means we get to have a rematch of that gold cup semifinal from this summer, in which we clearly got screwed by the Mexican official. As of this time I can’t find out who exactly is referring the game, I’ll attempt to look some more, but so far no luck, but I highly expect it to somehow be a Mexican(pure irony suggests it). So the all mighty US against the cash strapped Canucks (reminder they almost didn’t make it to the tournament due to lack of funds on the part of the CSA), in a one match winner take all to the Olympics, wouldn’t it be grand if we won it on a botched offside call. I would think so.
So do the U23’s have a chance? Well the US tied Cuba before half the team defected to the States and beat Honduras and Haiti by 1-0 scores. So it hasn’t been the most compelling US team, and the chance is there for Canada to get the win. It will be up to Will Johnson’s tournament leading 3 goals to lead the way for the Canadians.
If anyone has a link to the game on the web could you post it. I don’t think any of the big networks in Canada are covering the game.

Do you get Fox Sports World Canada? They are showing the game live as far as I know. It’s channel 412 on Bell ExpressVu if you have that.

Wow what a bullshit call for the first freekick. The only way the U.S. can score, is if they get bogus calls for free kicks and penalties. Donovan 4 goals at the Gold Cup (all penalties), Adu two goals in one game (both set plays), see a pattern here. That one goal took Canada out of the game, so they needed to push forward, hence leaving holes, and getting scored on. Nice one Klejstan, but other than that, Canada got screwed again. Ohh and did you hear the commentators, ohh no they weren’t pro USA. Johnson was manhandled the whole game, and at one point almost lost his shirt. Marvell Wynne launched Johnson passed the sidelines, with a hit that is usually reserved for a game of hockey and the ref did nothing. Altidore needs to work on his acting, so he could become the next Donovan. And of course, it’s inevitable, the U.S. win!!! Wow they’re so great, especially when they pay off refs. I’m disgusted once again.

On other matters, hey whoever runs this blog, could you write something for the upcoming Estonia game? I say they go all out attack since they’ve got the firepower this time.
I see it (but probably won’t be):
——————————Hirschfeld———————————-
——–Stalteri————–Mckenna———Hastings———–Klukowski-
——-De Guzman————–Issey/Gerba——De Rosario——–Radz——
————————–Hume——————–Friend——————-
Subs to bring in: Bernier, Hutchinson, Simpson/Hainault
Whatever you do don’t do it : Imhof

Ohh thanks, but I knew who was in the squad already, I’m just putting in my opinion as to how they should start. Thanks anyway though, as I didn’t know it would be on setanta. It’s always so hard to find a feed.

What about Jimmyboy (Brennan) though, if they had him in the team, I’d say all the positions had been filled adequately. He’s the missing piece to the puzzle. Perhaps Sutton as well, but Hirschy is good enough; better than Onstad.

Well since the game is in Estonia it would be easier for the European players to get to the game, also Jimmy Brennan has basically lambasted the CSA so i don’t believe they will be picking him anytime soon.

Really? Wow that sucks, he’s good and on set plays especially.
