Soccer fans too rowdy in Canada
Ah yes soccer fans being a bit too rough in Canada, not because they are having riots against one another, nope we haven’t learnt that skill yet, but because they are slowly but surely breaking all the soccer available stadiums in Canada. It started with the opening of the BMO field in Toronto this year where the Toronto FC play. It only took the first rowdy home game for the bleachers and the bolts underneath the bleachers to come apart due to the feverish stomping by the rabid Toronto FC fans, while yes it was a simple task of tightening bolts, it’s not something that occurs often on well constructed buildings in Canada with all the rules and safety measures that are put in place by our governments.
So all seemed well in Canada for the World U20 championships this past summer, which went perfectly smooth other than that small incident with Chile and the Toronto Police. But alas news has come out that one more stadium has suffered from the rabid soccer fans in Canada disease.
Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa hosted 8 U20 games and while being built in 1908 was thought to be in pretty good condition though some modernization would have been nice. Alas it was not the case, one side of the stadium, the south side, has developed cracks in its concrete structure and can no longer be used, the last events to use it were the U20s so suffice to say the rabid fans win again. I did attend one of the games in Ottawa, and thankfully I was on the north side and cannot be blamed for the cracks. But for a country that has hopes that maybe one day it can host a world cup it has to do a better job of keeping it’s stadiums in conditions to be used to host a tournament in the future.

So on a good note, hopefully Canadian soccer fans can continue to show up in huge numbers, just be nice to the stadiums they aren’t used to all the cheering, stomping and chanting that goes on.
